Sourcing grass fed lamb from the finest pastures of Victoria, Southern NSW, Tasmania and Eastern South Australia, ‘Great Southern’ go where the grass is at its greenest.
The Great Southern network started in 2013 as a means of uniting farmers across the South East of Australia under one code of practice – and is committed to providing a new level of quality lamb for Australian consumers. Cradled between the Great Southern Ocean and the Great Dividing Range is an expanse of fertile country where some of the world’s best lamb is produced – entirely free range, 100% grass-fed and free from added hormones, growth promotants and antibiotics.
Great Southern works closely with its farmers to cultivate consistently high standards of production; from natural salt-of-the-earth farming, animal welfare – up the supply chain to handling and food safety. A combination of attentiveness, knowledge and care on the behalf of the farmers and pristine grassland mean the animals live comfortable lives on green pastures with an abundance of space and food. The result is MSA graded lamb with consistent texture and flavour across all products.
The network operates under the watchful eye of the JBS Farm Assurance Program a regulatory body that oversees the entire process – ensuring that the lamb is grown responsibly, ethically, and meets its high welfare and food safety standards. This is achieved through regular audits and record-keeping protocols that assure complete accountability. The scheme makes sure that things are done the right way – with no shortcuts.
